Boom lifts in one paragraph
A boom lift puts a platform on the end of an arm, so unlike a scissor lift it can work away from where the machine parks. That is the whole difference and it is what you are paying for.
All our boom lifts are 4WD diesel on rough terrain tires, so they work on graded dirt and slope rather than needing a finished slab.
The choice comes down to one question. If you can park with a clear line to the work, a straight boom reaches further for the same money. If something sits in between, only the articulating machine will get you there.
3 things we will ask you for
- How high and how far out the work actually is, measured rather than estimated
- The narrowest opening anywhere on the route in, not just the entry gate
- What the ground is, whether that is finished slab, graded dirt or a slope
Send us a photo of the access route and the work area, and we will tell you straight which machine to take.

Where we deliver
Common questions
How much does it cost to rent a boom lift in Phoenix?
From $350/day for the 40 ft straight boom, and $377 for either 45 ft machine. Delivery is required at the large tier, which is $125 each way inside 20 mi, and fuel is $90 prepaid.
What is the difference between an articulating and a telescopic boom lift?
A telescopic or straight boom is one stick that reaches further out. An articulating boom has a knuckle that lets it go up, over and back down behind an obstacle, trading reach for that ability.
Can a boom lift be used on dirt, gravel or a rough job site?
Yes. All our boom lifts are 4WD on rough terrain tires. They still need firm ground, and soft sand or fresh uncompacted fill will bog them.
What fall protection does a boom lift need?
A full body harness with the lanyard clipped to the platform anchor, worn every time the platform is occupied. Boom lifts are the one machine class where the guardrails do not count as the fall protection on their own.
Will a boom lift fit through my gate?
Ours are 7 ft 6 in and 7 ft 8 in wide, which is more than a standard residential gate. Measure the clear opening and the approach angle and tell us before you book.
How does Summit Rentals handle diesel on a boom lift?
Diesel is prepaid at booking rather than billed afterward, which works out at $90 for the 15 gal tank that all our boom lifts carry. They go out fueled and there is nothing to reconcile when they come back.
