Compactors in one paragraph
Compaction is the least glamorous part of any hardscape or utility job and the one that decides whether the work lasts. Uncompacted base settles, and settlement shows up as a dipped patio or a cracked slab months later.
The plate compactor is the machine for that work. It runs in lifts of a few inches at a time, and it is cheap enough that most crews keep it for the whole job rather than the day.
If the ground is heavy clay a plate is the wrong tool, and a rammer or a roller is what the job wants. We do not stock either, and we would rather say so than rent you the wrong machine.
3 things we will ask you for
- The area to compact, measured rather than estimated
- How deep each layer of fill is before you compact it
- What the material is, whether that is gravel base, sand or clay
Send us a photo of the access route and the work area, and we will tell you straight which machine to take.

Pickup or delivery
This machine is light enough to collect from our location yourself, so delivery is optional rather than required, and you will need a vehicle and tie downs that suit the weight.
If you would rather we brought it out to you, call us and we will price the run to your address before you book.
Pick it up from our location during store hours, Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and bring it back during store hours on the return date.
Where we deliver
Common questions
How much does it cost to rent a compactor in Phoenix?
$55/day, $275 for the week or $500 for 4 weeks. The 4-week rate costs the same as 9 days.
Do I need delivery for a compactor?
No. It is a warehouse pickup item that fits in a pickup bed with 2 people to load. We can deliver if you want, but on a $55 item the freight often costs more than the rental.
Why does base have to be compacted in layers?
Because a plate only drives its energy a few inches down, so a thick lift firms up on top while the bottom of it stays loose. That looks finished, holds nothing and settles later.
Should I wet the base before compacting?
Lightly, yes. Granular material compacts much better slightly damp than bone dry, which matters more in Phoenix than most places.
