Why brush turf

Infill settles and the pile lies down

Artificial turf flattens where people walk and the infill migrates to the low spots. Brushing lifts the fibers back upright and redistributes the infill so the surface wears evenly.

Doing it once or twice a year is the difference between turf that lasts its warranty and turf that looks tired in 3 summers.

It is also the last step on a new installation. Brushing after the infill goes down is what makes a fresh lawn look like grass rather than carpet.

Which term to book

At $45/day and $195/week, this is the lowest day rate we charge. The week costs about 4⅓ days.

The 4-week rate of $395 is only $5 more than 2 weeks, so take it for anything longer than 2 weeks.

What you get

Included with every rental

  • A current annual inspection, with the operator manual riding in the machine
  • A full function check before it leaves the yard, so nothing surprises you on site
  • A phone number that reaches the yard directly rather than a call center

Will it fit? 4 things decide it

Measure before you book
01

Getting it home

Light enough for a pickup bed. Check the working width against your tailgate before you drive over.

02

Turf type

Made for artificial turf. It is not a dethatcher and it will not do anything useful on a live lawn.

03

Infill

If you are adding infill, spread it first and brush afterward, working in overlapping passes.

04

Access

Walk behind, so it needs a gate wide enough to push it through and reasonably level ground to work on.

Pickup or delivery

This is a warehouse pickup item with no delivery tier assigned. Collect it from the yard in a pickup or a van.

If you want it brought out, call and we will price it, though on a $45 item the delivery usually costs more than the rental.

Pick it up from the yard during store hours, Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and bring it back during store hours on the return date.

Using it safely

Straightforward equipment, but it is powered and it has a rotating brush.

  • Keep hands and feet clear of the brush while it is turning.
  • Safety boots and eye protection, because infill gets thrown.
  • Do not use it on wet turf, which mats the fibers rather than lifting them.
  • Check for sprinkler heads and edging before you start a pass.
  • Let the engine cool before loading it into a vehicle.

FAQ

Common questions

How often should artificial turf be brushed?

Once or twice a year for a normal lawn, more where there is heavy foot traffic or pets. Traffic paths flatten first and show it soonest.

Will it work on a real lawn?

No. This is for artificial turf. A live lawn wants a dethatcher or a scarifier, which is different equipment.

Do I brush before or after adding infill?

Spread the infill first, then brush it in. Brushing first only lifts the pile, which the infill then flattens again.

Can I fit it in a pickup?

Yes, it is light enough for a pickup bed. Check the working width against your tailgate opening first.
