40 ft
straight boom
lift rental
Genie S-40. 46 ft of working height and nearly 32 ft of horizontal reach on 4WD diesel, so it goes where the ground is rough and the work is out in front of you.
Rates don't include delivery, fuel, the 15% damage waiver or tax. See your out-the-door price with a quick quote. Delivery is required and billed each way.
Reach out, not up and over
A straight boom is one stick. It goes up and out in a line, which buys you more horizontal reach than a knuckle boom of the same height and gets there faster.
The S-40 reaches 31 ft 8 in out from the machine. That is the number that matters when you cannot park underneath the work, because of landscaping, a trench or parked equipment.
If something sits between you and the work, a straight boom cannot go around it. That is what the articulating machine is for.

Which term to book
At $350/day and $890/week, the week is worth taking from about the third day. The 4-week rate of $1,970 lands near 2¼ weeks.
Delivery is the same whichever term you book, and at the large tier that is $250 round trip inside 20 mi, so short bookings carry a lot of freight cost.
Included with every rental
- A current annual inspection, with the operator manual riding in the machine
- A full function check before it leaves the yard, so nothing surprises you on site
- A phone number that reaches the yard directly rather than a call center
Will it fit? 4 things decide it
Measure before you bookGate and access width
7 ft 6 in wide. A standard residential gate will not take it, so measure the narrowest point of the route in before you book.
Overhead clearance
8 ft 2 in stowed. Watch for power lines, canopies and low branches on the way to the work area.
Ground conditions
4WD on rough terrain tires, so it handles dirt and grade. It still needs firm ground, and soft sand or fresh fill will bog it.
Setup room
24 ft 3 in long stowed. It needs somewhere to sit and swing, and the turntable rotates a full 360 degrees.
Fuel and running costs
Diesel, with a 15 gal tank. Fuel is prepaid at booking, which comes to $90 for a full tank.
It arrives fueled and ready. There is no refill charge to reconcile afterward and nothing for your crew to chase down mid job.
Operator rules
Boom lifts fall under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.453 and ANSI A92.22 and A92.24. A full body harness with a lanyard clipped to the platform anchor is required every time the platform is occupied.
- Your employer trains and authorizes the operator and keeps a written safe use program on site.
- Harness on, lanyard clipped, before the platform leaves the ground.
- Inspect and function test at the start of every shift, including ground controls and emergency lowering.
- 500 lb on the platform, including people, tools and material.
- This machine is not insulated, so keep the minimum approach distance from energized lines.

Where we deliver
Common questions
What is the difference between a straight and an articulating boom lift?
A straight boom is one telescoping stick, so it reaches further out but only in a line. An articulating boom has a knuckle, which lets it reach up, over and back down behind an obstacle, at the cost of horizontal reach.
How far out will a 40 ft boom lift reach?
31 ft 8 in horizontally at this machine's rated capacity. Reach and height are a trade, so you cannot have the maximum of both at once.
Will it drive on dirt and grade?
Yes. 4WD on rough terrain tires handles graded lots and slopes. Soft sand and fresh uncompacted fill are still a problem.
Can I haul a boom lift on my own trailer?
No. At 11,650 lb and 24 ft long stowed, this machine is past what a contractor trailer will carry, so delivery is required on every boom lift we rent.
