Route to the stump
400 lb on small wheels. It rolls on firm ground but it is hard work across soft turf, gravel or a slope.
Transport
Too heavy to lift into a truck. Use a ramp and a winch, or rent the tilt deck trailer with it.
Working room
You need room to swing the wheel side to side across the stump, not just to stand behind the machine.
Call 811 before you grind. Irrigation, low voltage lighting and gas lines run shallower than people expect, and a grinder wheel finds them fast.
Palm stumps are fibrous rather than woody and behave differently. Call the yard before you book if that is what you are dealing with.

Grinding time depends far more on diameter than on species, though hardwood slows everything down. These are working estimates rather than promises.

Using it safely
A stump grinder throws debris hard and fast. Most injuries are from flying chips and rock rather than from the wheel itself.
- Full face shield and eye protection, hearing protection, boots and long sleeves.
- Clear rock, wire and metal from around the stump before you start. Rock is what destroys teeth and what gets thrown.
- Keep everyone else well back, and never let anyone stand in line with the wheel.
- Call Arizona 811 and check for irrigation and low voltage lighting first.
- Chock the wheels on any slope and never grind across a grade you cannot stand on.
