Why we list a class, not a model

You are booking a capability, not a serial number

We hold several equivalent propane machines. The listing describes the class rather than one of them. We match a unit at dispatch.

Every one reaches about 15 ft, runs on propane and plates between 4,600 and 4,750 lb. If your spec calls for a particular make or a particular rating, tell us when you book and we will confirm what is available.

The one question that does change the machine is what you are driving on. Cushion tires are for smooth concrete and pneumatic tires suit outdoor asphalt, so we ask that at booking.

Which term to book

At $197/day and $530/week, the week pays for itself just past the second day. The 4-week rate of $1,430 is close to 2¾ weeks.

This is the lowest cost way to move pallets that we rent, and it costs less than every telehandler in the fleet.

What you get

Included with every rental

  • A current annual inspection, with the operator manual riding in the machine
  • A full function check before it leaves the yard, so nothing surprises you on site
  • A phone number that reaches the yard directly rather than a call center

Will it fit? 4 things decide it

Measure before you book
01

Door and aisle width

45.3 in across the body. Add the load, because a 48 in pallet turned the wrong way is wider than the machine.

02

Lowered mast height

Check the height with the mast down against your lowest door, especially roll up doors with the drum in the opening.

03

Floor and surface

Flat concrete or good asphalt. This is not a rough terrain machine, and a gravel yard or a graded lot will stop it.

04

Capacity derating

The 4,600 to 4,750 lb plate rating is at a 24 in load center. A long or awkward load moves the center out and the safe capacity drops.

This is a 5,000 lb class truck. The class is how the trade sizes these machines. The plate is what governs the lift, and ours are plated at 4,600 to 4,750 lb depending on the machine. If your load is close to that, tell us when you book and we will confirm the plate on the machine you are getting.

15 ft of fork height is not 15 ft of racking. Work out which beam level you actually need to reach and check it against the mast, because the last level is usually the one that catches people out.

If the ground is not flat concrete, or you need to reach over something, you want a telehandler instead.

Propane and fuel policy

Forklifts work differently from the diesel machines. You prepay the propane cylinder at booking for $48, the machine goes out full and it comes back empty with nothing to reconcile.

Propane burns clean enough to run indoors, which is the whole reason this is the machine for warehouse work rather than a diesel lift.

Operator rules

Powered industrial trucks fall under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178. Your employer must train, evaluate and certify each operator for the type of truck and the conditions at your site.

  • Renting does not certify anyone. Operator certification is your employer's responsibility under 1910.178.
  • Inspect the truck at the start of every shift, including forks, mast, chains, horn and brakes.
  • Never exceed the rated capacity at the load center you are actually working at.
  • Nobody rides on the forks and nobody is lifted on a pallet.
  • Ventilation still matters indoors, even on propane. Keep the building ventilated.

FAQ

Common questions

Is this really a 5,000 lb forklift?

It is a 5,000 lb class truck, which is how the trade sizes this machine, and it is what almost everyone searches for. It is plated at 4,600 to 4,750 lb depending on the machine. Work from the plate rather than the class if your load is close to the limit.

What does the rated capacity actually mean?

It is the weight the truck will lift at a 24 in load center, which assumes the load sits close to the mast. Move it further out and the safe figure falls, sometimes sharply. Always work from the data plate on the machine you are given.

Will a rental forklift fit through my door?

The body is 45.3 in wide, but the load usually decides it. Measure your narrowest opening and tell us the pallet size when you book.

Do I have to refill the propane before returning it?

No. You prepay the cylinder at booking, the machine goes out full and returns empty. There is no refill charge and nothing to reconcile.

Can a propane forklift be used inside a building?

Yes, that is what it is for. Propane burns clean enough for indoor work, though the building still needs reasonable ventilation.

Can a rental forklift be used on gravel or dirt?

No. This is a flat surface machine. For a yard, a graded lot or anything rough, take a telehandler.
